Born Again
By Deryl S. Lampkin
Being born again implies experiencing a new birth. When you were born into the physical world, you were born with a physical body and over time you learned how to interact with the physical world. You went through a growth and development process from infancy to adulthood.
When we were born, we took on the spiritual nature of our forefather Adam. He had a sinful nature implying that his natural tendency was to sin. This is why Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be born for a second time.
Jhn 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Jhn 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
Jhn 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Jhn 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Jesus was indicating that it was not necessary to go through the process of a physical birth all over again, but rather, he needed to be born of the Spirit.
Jhn 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.
The body is useful to God. It is the vessel or the hardware that spirits use to operate in the physical world and manifest their works. The sinful nature that we inherited, desires the things of the flesh and the things of the world. It naturally produces sinful behavior and the works of the flesh. The term body means slave. Therefore, it is a matter of who’s your slave master. Is it the devil (in control) working through your carnal sinful nature or is God (in control) working through your new spirit man nature?
The carnal nature cannot receive the things of God. This is why we need to be born again of the Spirit.
Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded [is] death; but to be spiritually minded [is] life and peace.
Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Rom 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
The Spirit of God causes us to become impregnated with the Word of God. The new nature that results must grow and develop in the knowledge of God and the things of God. As the new spirit nature matures unto adulthood, we began to operate fluidly in the power of his might.
Unfortunately, many saints never reach that stage of maturity. For many of us, we only learn religion, which is a form of godliness that prohibits the power of God from operating through us. Religion teaches us to follow the ritualistic practice of going to church rather than being the church. We are ever hearing and learning the Word, but are failing to be transformed into the image of Christ and work the works of Christ. When we become mature born again believers, our bodies and mind become true slaves of Christ and do whatsoever the Master commands.
Rom 6:13 Neither yield ye your members [as] instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members [as] instruments of righteousness unto God.
Rom 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.
